Video gaming

Controversies surrounding video games:

Controversies surrounding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

In November 10, 2009 call of duty: modern warfare 2 came out. Originally it was supposed to PEGI 15 but one chapter in the game called "No Russian" you enter a Russian airport with Vladimir Makarov and three others and gun down the entre airport containing civilians and airport guards and Vladimir Makarov says that you cannot speak Russian.

In result the game was changed from PEGI 15 to a PEGI 18 and world-wide Controversy arose.

Russia's reaction:

This controversial mission was removed from the Russian PC version of the game. It was originally reported that sales of the console editions of Modern Warfare 2 were delayed in Russia due to an ordered recall, but Activision has called this report false. Activision stated that they made the decision to remove the "No Russian" mission from the game prior to the game's release as they did with the Russian PC version which was released before the console versions. The decision to remove the mission was made after consulting with local counsel since Russia has no formal ratings board. The only other body who has the authority to pass ratings on video games in the Russian Federation is the Television and Film Classification Board (CRRS), who refused to comment on the controversy.

Different types of PEGI's

Appropriate for children from a certain age of 7 year's old

The content of games given this rating is considered suitable for all age groups. Some violence in a comical context (typically Bugs Bunny or Tom & Jerry cartoon-like forms of violence) is acceptable. The child should not be able to associate the character on the screen with real life characters, they should be totally fantasy. The game should not contain any sounds or pictures that are likely to scare or frighten young children. No bad language should be heard.

Appropriate for children from a certain age of 12 year's old

Videogames that show violence of a slightly more graphic nature towards fantasy character and/or non-graphic violence towards human-looking characters or recognisable animals, as Well as videogames that show nudity of a slightly more graphic nature would fall in this age category. Any bad language in this category must be mild and fall short of sexual expletives.

Appropriate for children from a certain age of 16 year's old

This rating is applied once the depiction of violence (or sexual activity) reaches a stage that looks the same as would be expected in real life. More extreme bad language, the concept of the use of tobacco and drugs and the depiction of criminal activities can be content of games that are rated 16.

Appropriate for children from a certain age of 18 year's old

The adult classification is applied when the level of violence reaches a stage where it becomes a depiction of gross violence and/or includes elements of specific types of violence. Gross violence is the most difficult to define since it can be very subjective in many cases, but in general terms it can be classed as the depictions of violence that would make the viewer feel a sense of revulsion.

I agree/disagree with gaming classification because…

I both agree and disagree with gaming classification.

A video game content rating system is a system used for the classification of video games into suitability-related groups. Most of these systems are associated with and/or sponsored by a government, and are sometimes part of the local motion picture rating system. The utility of such ratings has been called into question by studies that publish findings such as 90% of teenagers claim that their parents "never" check the ratings before allowing them to rent or buy video games, and as such calls have been made to "fix" the existing rating systems. Video game content rating systems can be used as the basis for laws that cover the sales of video games to minors.

The reason why is that, having a guideline that video gaming can use to made their games is good so they know what they can and not do. This can also be used to target a particular audience and what they can put in the game which is in the guidelines of that PEGI.

But I also be a bad thing because a game developer wants to put something into a game but they have been told to stay in a particular PEGI rating so they can’t put that thing in because it breaks the rules of the PEGI system  and it doesn’t make the video  game as good as it can be.

The script

HISTORY OF XBOX: 360: Documentary

Int. Classroom. Day

KIERAN speaks to camera. casual looking. talking to camera.

KIERAN

Hello my name is KIERAN and I am going to talk to you about the history of the Xbox and the Xbox 360.And it's future in online gaming.

Xbox was once one of the greatest consoles of home gaming. the first gaming console that Microsoft released was the "Xbox", it was released on, 2001 in north america, February 2002 in Japan, and in march, 2002 in Australia and Europe. Microsoft is going into its sixth-generation of gaming gaming consoles now.

Microsoft released an update in 2002 which allowed prayers to interact with each other and play online games. it was such a popular feature on the Xbox that the critics stated that Xbox live had a better online experience than Sony's play station 2, although Xbox live needs a subscription.

In November 2005, Microsoft released the Xbox 360; it was the big brother to the first Xbox. the first Xbox was discontinued in north america and in 2006.

the last we saw of the first Xbox was in 2007 when it finally died out due to the Xbox 360 and it was the end of the first generation Xbox.

The successor to the first Xbox is the Xbox 360 which microsoft unveiled on MTV on may 12, 2005 which more information was reviled at E3 2005.

The Xbox was released on November  22, 2005, in the united states and Canada; December 2, 2005, in Europe and December 10, 2005, in Japan. It was launched in 36 countries, more than any other console in a single year.

The main new features of the new Xbox 360 are its integrated Xbox live service that allows players to "complete online" that allows to download arcade games, games, game demo's, trailers, TV shows, music and movie's and its window media Center multimedia capabilities. As well the Xbox 360 also offers region specific access to third-party media streaming application such as Netflix, Iplayer, lovefilm and ESPN in the USA or sky go in the UK, linked to the development of 'kinect'.

The Xbox 360 launched with 14 games in north america and 13 in Europe. the console's best-selling game for 2005, Call Of Duty, sold over a million copies. five other games sold over a million copies  in the consoles first year on the market: Ghost Recon advanced war fighter, The elder scrolls IV: Oblivion, Dead or Alive 4, Saints Row and Gears Of war. Gears of war would become the best-selling game on the console with 3 million million copies in 2006, before surpassed in 2007 by Halo 3 with over 8 million copies.

To come to a conclusion we have to think the pro's and con's of the Xbox and the Xbox 360.

Xbox has some really good features like:

good game play and control, good game design and graphics as well as it is very sociable.

good updates. it has a great variety of app's that allows you to convert your Xbox to a PC to surf the Internet.

On the other hand it has negative features such as:

The community is not the best. The connectivity to the console with your Internet is not great.

So in my opinion Microsoft, Xbox 360 is growing but it could be better and looking it has good potential in the gaming market.

My Pre-Production

My original idea was an information clip about what's in the world the link: www.you-tube.com/user/Vsauce

My other idea was a documentary on how xbox360 started and how far It has come from the first Xbox to current Xbox to the future Xbox.

The concept is that I talk about how the first Xbox came around in November 15, 2001 to the current Xbox 360 which came out in November 22, 2005.plus I will talk about the future of Xbox with the Xbox 720 coming out in a year’s time.

Then I thought an enough idea to another thing called 'how it should have ended'.
The concept of how it should have ended is that you take a game, film or book and you change the ending by modifying the plot to be something different to the actual ending and sometimes what should have happened didn't happen at all because the ending was different.

For the link to watch people who do these animations: www.youtube.com/show/hishe.

My audience:
When I consider my audience they will mostly people aged like such from 10 to 20 years old, these people are people who like gaming for fun.
Ideas and intentions:

When I come to ideas and intentions, with my documentary I will talk about how Microsoft came up with the Xbox franchise and where it is going in the present day and to the future of Xbox 720.

Health and Safety and risk assessments’:
My risk assessment is that the risks that I could face when doing my documentary the risks are:
·         Tripping over wires.
·         Unexpected failure of video equipment.(video recorder)

My crew:
For my crew I will only need one person and they will control the video camera and they will only press the start and stop but on the video camera.

My three minute video

First idea:
Vsauce is an educational YouTube channel. One video which asked the question "What if Everyone on Earth jumped at the same time?",was featured on Huffington Post. Vsauce has collaborated with Minute Physics on two videos: Guns in Space and What if the Earth were Hollow?. Vsauce has also uploaded a video where he explains how much the internet weighs. The main channel currently airs 4 recurring segments: "Dot.", "Lüt", "IMG", and "DONG", along with the Vsauce lean back and "Up All Knight". "Dot." is a segment where Micheal (The main Vsauce host) answers interesting questions such as: what is cool, and what is a bird in the hand worth. "Lüt" is a segment where Michieal shows interesting items you can buy on the internet such as: Unicorn farts, Breast milk ice cream, and cow fart in a jar. "IMG" is a segment where Micheal showcases the best photos on the internet as of that week. "DONG" (which stands for stuff you can Do Online Now Guys) is a segment where Micheal shows off some of the best things you can do on the internet, most of which he gets sent by his fans via Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube messages. Vsauce also has 3 other sister channels: Vsauce2, Vsauce3, and WeSauce each has their own YouTube channel titled after their own names.

Second idea:
How it should have ended of a video game, where a part of the game is changed and it became a ending of the video game or a movie.

my strengths on the doritos advert in my group with connor where that we got the advert done very quickly and was to a good quality as-well.

my weaknesses on the advert would be that getting the advert done in time that was a weakness and that nearly happened and I should improve on that.

evaluation of morph animation

my strengths on the morph animation was that the actual animation itself it was mainly easy to do and with very little problems.other strengths I had on this project was that I knew what to from the start and how to do it.
on this project i didn't have any weaknesses really which were a problem.

strengths and weaknesses on the aviva project

The strengths and the weaknesses on the aviva project with myself as a person and the group as a whole was that it went well in my opinion we had a few bumps in the road to get over but in my opinion it went very well for what we did.
As a person in the group  my strengths would be that I got every thing done in the time given and that whatever was needed to be done I got done and I made sure I done it on time.another strengths that I had was that i made sure that every one was on the same wavelength and new what they were doing and that we where doing the same thing and making sure that everything was getting done and was being shared out between each of the groups.
My weaknesses would be that the communication because being communicated all the time is quite hard and sharing information between the three groups was sometimes hard but was always solved and moved on.

The strengths and weaknesses of the group.
The strengths of our group was mainly the idea about about our advert we had a clear concept for our advert and new what to do and get it done.other strengths are that how we worked together through out the project.
the only weakness in the group would be the communication between the three groups because sometimes we didn't always talk to each other but that is the only weakness we had in the group.
